Domestic Violence

Today I was watching a video by Trey Songz and it got me thinking.

Ladies, Domestic Abuse is not okay…it is a crime and is punishable by law. According to the National Domestic Violence hotline, three million women are physically abused by their husband or boyfriend per year. That is completely ridiculous!!

Domestic violence is behavior that is used to achieve or sustain power and control over a partner. It takes many forms such as physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that will frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure or wound someone. This is NOT love...How can you do that to someone you love and care for?

Some people believe that domestic violence can only happen to a certain group of people, when infact it can happen to anyone regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels, religion or gender. Whether they are married, living together or are dating. Domestic violence can affect all people.

Tell tale signs of abuse

-Emotional abuse:
Calls you names, insults you or continually criticizes you.
Does not trust you and acts jealous or possessive.
Tries to isolate you from family or friends.
Monitors where you go, who you call and who you spend time with.
Does not want you to work.
Controls finances or refuses to share money.
Punishes you by withholding affection.
Expects you to ask permission.
Threatens to hurt you, the children, your family or your pets.
Humiliates you in any way.

-Physically abuse:
Damaged property when angry (thrown objects, punched walls, kicked doors, etc.).
Pushed, slapped, bitten, kicked or choked you.
Abandoned you in a dangerous or unfamiliar place.
Scared you by driving recklessly.
Used a weapon to threaten or hurt you.
Forced you to leave your home.
Trapped you in your home or kept you from leaving.
Prevented you from calling police or seeking medical attention.
Hurt your children.
Used physical force in sexual situations.

-Sexual abuse:
Views women as objects and believes in rigid gender roles.
Accuses you of cheating or is often jealous of your outside relationships.
Wants you to dress in a sexual way.
Insults you in sexual ways or calls you sexual names.
Has ever forced or manipulated you into to having sex or performing sexual acts.
Held you down during sex.
Demanded sex when you were sick, tired or after beating you.
Hurt you with weapons or objects during sex.
Involved other people in sexual activities with you.
Ignored your feelings regarding sex.

-Here are a few statistics on Domestic Violence:
4 million American women experience a serious assault by a partner during an average 12-month period.

· On the average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends every day.
· 92% of women say that reducing domestic violence and sexual assault should be at the top of any formal efforts taken on behalf of women today.
· 1 out of 3 women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime.
· Women of all races are equally vulnerable to violence by an intimate partner.
· 37% of all women who sought care in hospital emergency rooms for violence–related injuries were injured by a current or former spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend.
· Some estimates say almost 1 million incidents of violence occur against a current or former spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend per year.
· For 30% of women who experience abuse, the first incident occurs during pregnancy.
If you are abused by someone please seek help. Don't believe the lies "I'm sorry" and "it will never happen again" because it WILL happen again and will continue until you are no longer with him. Trust me...Once an abuser always an abuser!! It is only then that you will heal from the effects of abuse.

Happiness!!!

Only you can determine your happiness. If you are not happy, then do what is necessary to change that. These are words I am trying to live by. Afterall, you only live once...and when you die could you honestly say you have lived a happy life?

Happiness is not how much money you have, how big your house is, or how many LV bags you possess, it is something that comes from within.

It's a damn shame!!!!!!!

It's a shame when people whom are supposed to love you try their hardest to break you down. I am a good person, and want to be treated as such. I am the type of person that will help anyone in need (to the best of my ability), the person that will make a fool of myself just to make you laugh when you're sad, I listen and offer advice even though I have my own problems to deal with. Yeah, I have a few negative things about me just like every other person, but would never delibrately try to hurt someone!! One thing I found out about myself (not too long ago), is that I am a strong woman!! so you CANNOT break me down, go a head and try but you will just be wasting your time and energy; but you can make me work harder!!!! so THANK YOU!!!! Now I am more determined than ever!!
